Citizens rise up: a Democracy Movement is launched in response to Unitary Executives gone wild.

Decry torture, imprisonment without charges, illegal wiretapping of citizens, unchecked Executive Privilege and the unwarranted amassing of Executive Power. We want our country back!

Paul and Paula Reveres, Patrick and Patricia Henrys rise up and join this blossoming movement taking hold in America by citizens alarmed and worried that the very foundations of our democracy are being undermined by zealots and ideologues bent on unitary executive power (that looks pretty close to dictators to me).

Three groups have come together to launch the American Freedom Campaign, and I say Hooray! The groups are: Center for Constitutional Rights, Human Rights Watch, and MoveOn.org

This is the American Freedom Campaign Pledge and it reads: “We are Americans, and in our America we do not torture, we do not imprison people without charge or legal remedy, we do not tap people’s phones and e-mails without a court order, and above all we do not give any president unchecked power.” “I pledge to fight to protect and defend the Constitution from assault by any president.”

In the Claudia Parsons story, it is reported that the American Freedom Campaign is asking candidates to sign the pledge. Please, John Edwards, for all of us, sign this pledge.

All citizens concerned about the terrible amassing of unwarranted power in the Executive Office should go to this site and join the movement.

This is our country and we need to get it back!!

We want our Democracy back for when John Edwards is in the White House overseeing the rightful government we once knew, with a respect for law, our Constitution and moral leadership.

p.s. There are only a few more days for us to get the attention of our Senators, Congressperson, Senator Harry Reid, and Congresswoman Nancy Pilosi to overturn Executive Order 13438: "Blocking Property of Certain Persons Who Threaten Stabilization Efforts in Iraq." The deadline to overturn this Executive Order is August 19th, but the catch is, that congress is supposed to be recessing by the end of the week. No time to lose, call them now!
