Pregnant Women Support Act deserves the support of LIberals

This document was published in Facebook, by the Group, "We support the "Pregnant Women Support Act"" I copy it here in its entirety because I agree fully that the Pregnant Women Support Act is profoundly deep and compassionate and provides all women with the resources to carry them through pregnancy safely, healthfully and with confidence for their future. It is in every way a populist bill that affords opportunity for all women, regardless of economic status. It should satisfy the populist vision of liberals and progressives and shoud be supported.

An important step toward drastically reducing the U.S. abortion rate is making sure that pregnant women do not feel forced into abortion because of socioeconomic circumstances. This is something that people of good will can get behind, even apart from debates about overturning Roe v. Wade. The PWSA should serve as an area of common ground for people across the political spectrum who care about pregnant women and want to reduce the number of abortions in the U.S.

The Pregnant Women Support Act (S1032 in the Senate and HR 2035 in the House) would provide for programs that:
• Repeal the sunset on adoption tax credits and make them permanent
• Fully fund the federal WIC Program, Special Nutrition for Women, Infants and Children (WIC)
• Increase funding for domestic violence programs
• End the denial to pregnant women of health care from insurance companies because of "pre-existing conditions”
• Create a new pilot program for 'Life Support Centers' to offer comprehensive and supportive services for pregnant women, mothers and children
• Establish a national toll-free number and public awareness campaign to offer women support and knowledge about options and resources available to them when they face an unplanned pregnancy
• Provide new mothers with free home visits by registered nurses
• Help pregnant high-school and college students stay in school, offering them counseling as well as assistance with continuing their education, parenting support and classes, and child care assistance.
• Codify the current regulation allowing states to provide State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) coverage to unborn children and their mothers

The PWSA is the one bill already demonstrated to attract bi-partisan House support and build common ground, rather than further polarizing political parties and segmenting pro-life groups. Cardinal Rigali of the USCCB described Pregnant Women Support Act legislation in the House and Senate as "entirely separate" from controversial proposals involving pregnancy prevention, which many studies show do not reduce abortions.

This bill is wise and it is profound and it deserves the support oaf all liberals. In every way, it is a populist bill that provides all women with the resources they need for healtrh and economic well-being during pregnancy. Be wise, support this bill.

Copied from Facebook:

The Cardinal recently wrote to U.S. Representatives encouraging them to support the House version of the PWSA (H.R. 2035) introduced by Rep. Lincoln Davis (D-TN). The PWSA “reaches out to women with a helping hand when they are most vulnerable, and most engaged in making a decision about life or death for their unborn children,” Cardinal Rigali said. “It provides an authentic common ground, an approach that people can embrace regardless of their position on other issues.” (http://www.usccb.org/comm/archives/2009/09-105.shtml )

From the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention website on Jan. 7, 2009 ( http://erlc.com/article/legislative-agenda-for-2009/ )
"...we believe a positive approach is also needed. The Pregnant Women Support Act is just that. This bill, which was introduced in the last Congress, would provide various kinds of federal assistance to women who find themselves in challenging pregnancies so they would have the kinds of health and personal support they need to decide to give their babies life rather than aborting them."

But does a corporation really proverbially quack like you and I?

Such sorrow over the demise of our democracy! Bush's supremes deliver again for Corporate America - and it is such a misinterpretation of our Constitution.

We live in Silicon Valley, where corporations are big, bold and innovative, but I have yet to see one of them look like, walk like or act like a human being, with one heart, one brain, veins, tongue or lungs. In other words, the corporation doesn't proverbially "quack" like us. As a whole, they are essential, and we admire what they contribute to our local and national economy. Mostly, though, they are entities with so much money, with their eye glued to the bottom line, that we would never want to accede our democratic power to them, because we know we would be over-powered completely.

Teddy Kennedy's seat should be filled by a Democrat

Call Massachusetts for Martha Coakley! Go to: http://www.marthacoakley.com/get_involved/Neighbor-to-Neighbor

Getting Martha Coakley elected is paramount on my mind this weekend. Isn't it unthinkable that Scott Brown, committed to blocking health care reform could have even the remotest chance to fill Teddy Kennedy's seat in the U.S. Senate. Right wing extremists are said to be putting tons of money in tho this race against Martha Coakley. We can't let them get away with their false tea party antics. For real democracy, and real social justice let's ensure a win for the Democrat, Martha Coakely.
